Why another frontend?
Xarchiver is a desktop-agnostic GTK+2 frontend to various command line archiving tools. It was my intention to develop a simple GUI which could be used with any window manager and would operate using the command line rather than API calls. Xarchiver currently only runs on linux/bsd.
Features
- Support for 7-zip, arj, bzip2, gzip, rar, lha, deb, rpm (install without the RPM executable), tar and zip archives through the relevant command line tools.
- Password detection is automatic for arj, zip and rar files. Password encryption is available for these file types, as well as 7-zip.
- Generate self-extracting binaries from zip and 7-zip archives.
- Supports drag-drop through the XDM protocol, and firefox-like tabs.
Installation
Xarchiver requires only GTK+2 to install, and automatically detects command line archiving tools as they become available. Supported formats/tools are listed below:
- lha, tar, bzip2, gzip: standard unix archiving tools.
- arj: arj archiving tool.
- deb: deb package files.
- rar: rar archiving tool.
- rpm: rpm package files.
- zip: zip archiving tool.
- 7-zip: p7zip archiving tool.
